    Picture quality

Bright colours and excellent contrast in HD mode

This TV boasts a “full HD picture”.  When connected to Freeview, it delivers a fantastic HD picture, the colours are bright and vivid, and the image is sharp.  A great picture for dramas, comedies and even sport which can sometimes be the Achilles Heel of LED TVs.

Playing DVDs also produces an incredible picture, I’ve honestly not seen any better than this, I was amazed a TV that costs this much would produce such a good picture.

However in freeview, some standard definition channels look foggy and fuzzy. This is likely to be due to the bandwidth they have been allocated on the Freeview system rather than the TV, since the mainstream channels such as BBC, ITV, C4 etc. look absolutely fine in standard definition mode.

HD: Excellent.  Sharp contrast, bright colours.

Standard: Excellent on the larger channels (Freeview), noticeably worse than the old CRT TV it replaced on some of the less popular channels.

Access to the TV’s ports is relatively easy even when the TV is mounted to a bracket

No complaints but nothing to write home about.  Perfect adequate for a TV of this size, and surprisingly rich.  Perhaps lacking in dynamic range, but honestly this is a TV not a hi-fi, so I doubt anybody would really notice.

    Build Quality

This TV feels solid and well built.  Despite being relatively light it feels very sturdy.   The screen looks like it belongs to a very high quality TV, and the glass bevel around the edge only adds the feeling of a superior product.  Even the remote control has a feeling of quality:  an elegant thin design,  not overburdened by unneccessary buttons.   Superb.

3 HDMI ports, SCART and a USB port.   When placed on a wall we found the WIFI connectivity to patchy, but that is probably due the router (or the placement on the wall was in a flat spot).  Fortunately this TV comes with a good old-fashioned network connector, so I was able to hard wire it using a cheap TP-Link powerline connector to the router.

    Smart Features

This is where this TV really comes into its own.  The Smart features include BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 On Demand, ITV Player and the Channel 5 player.  However there are a host of other features built-in, including the pay services such as Netflix and Hulu.

A special “Smart” button on the remote fires up the smart features, and it is a joy to use.  It really couldn’t be simpler and should even be appropriate for older user who perhaps do not feel comfortable around this sort of technology.

This TV also comes with full 3D and two sets of 3D glasses.   It seems to work as well as any other 3D system I have tried but that about as far as I can say, as I am not a fan of this technology.  I have watched the demonstration video and it was fine, but I got the feeling I was on the verge of a headache.  I doubt I will ever use the 3D feature in anger 🙁

Samsung 40 inch LCD TV installed on a wall bracket

Due to its light weight and standard fixings, the Samsung proved a very easy television to install, and fixing it to a wall  can be considered a “one man job”.  The images her show it installed using a flat bracket on a chimney breast.  Overall it took approximate 90 minutes to unpack and install.  Being relatively light, it really isn’t a problem mounting this TV on a flat bracket, and the connections have all been placed in reachable positions on the right hand side.

    Overall very impressive indeed.

    Value for Money

At the time of writing this TV cost £499 from Amazon.   For the quality of picture and sound provided this is excellent value.  The Smart functions, together with 3D means that this television provides excellent value for money.

An excellent TV for the money.  Highly recommended.  The smart features are genuinely useful provided you can get a good connection to your router.  A pleasure to review.
